One of most common Kyiv brands (sounds weird but it is so) is bread. Not just bread, but a special kind of it, so called ‘Ukrainian bread’ or ‘black bread’. Round shape loafs are produced by baking factories mostly in Kyiv. If you buy it in other cities of Ukraine, it can be for from true ‘Ukrainian bread’.
It is made with the mixture of white and rye flour. The ingredients for the dough are quite simple – these are white and rye flour, yeast, water, and salt. A specific ingredient for lactic acid fermentation provides black bread with recognizable taste. Usually loafs are not sliced, packed or wrapped in plastic bags. It tastes good with salads, traditional soups like ‘borsh’, and especially good with salo!
